Madi and the little girls across the street use this "tunnel" under the street to go back and forth to each other's houses.

Yikes! I have no rational reason to say why this scares me, especially since it is probably safer than actually crossing a road. Yet still, somehow it really scares me... And I keep thinking "Dad REALLY wouldn't like this!"... very weird... I'm sure it is safe and fun!
I know that I would *feel like* Betty in the first post, if my kids were doing that. But, then, I'd argue with myself, saying that there was no logical reason to worry. And, then, I'd hide my worries from the kids & try to just let them have fun.
I felt the same way. Worried that the metal tube would collapse under the weight of a car. And, the mom across the street and I were joking about them meeting a skunk in there. But, it is fun for them, and it is safer than crossing the street, and I can't recall ever hearing about a street collapsing like that. So, still with a bit of worry about that skunk, I let her go ahead and do it.

Dick says that I'm crazy. That the only really problem is if the leader farts and you are stuck behind him... I think he is speaking from experience!
lol
