Spying on Vaughn and Cole. They were talking to eachother before Cole went to bed tonight. They did catch me taking this picture though.

We did some more exploring at the West Chicago Prairie today. When we were there yesterday, we asked if it was OK to go off trail & enjoy the whole area. That's when the kids can really feel like they're capable of overcoming any challenge that nature (or life) throws in their way.

Our neighbors have a tradition where you put a bible, a beer bottle and a silver dollar out to see what the birthday boy grabs - Gabriele grabbed the silver dollar which means that he will be prosperous. The beer bottle means that the child will be a 'wild child' and the bible means that the child will be a 'do gooder'

Pop quiz at spelling club, today. Both Bryce & Annie got almost all of the 4th grade words right. Everyone should encourage them to work on the 5th grade words and on the words for the final bee.

Yes, it is January 5th in Chicago and instead of picking up my shovel I picked up my rake (it was 45ish degrees out). We have one tree that holds onto it's leaves forever and all of these leaves were beginning to bother me. I felt so strange raking around the snowman and polar bear.

We are enjoying the dinner that Dylan and Lauren made us tonight (too bad she had to leave before it was done). As we ate dinner we listened to a new song from "Secret Colours" being played on WXRT. FYI- their new EP was released today...get your copy before they are all gone (and, they have a show this Saturday the 7th if you are interested)
