You definitely needed to see the end to take anything away from it at all. We rented it & watched it last night, too!

The police let him go, and he went back to finish the show.
Meanwhile his brother was back at the house with "the gang" and the boss.
Brother gave the girl car keys and told her he would take care of the gang leader.
The girl tried to drive to the show, but due to incredible public interest in the story of a slum kid making it to the final question, the roads are jammed. She gets out of the car and watches the show on a TV in a public area.
Back at the millionaire show the final question was who was the 3rd musketeer.
Jamal does not know the answer to the final question: Who was the 3rd musketeer. He uses his phone a friend. He tries to call his brother. The phone is ringing and ringing, the girl realizes she has the phone and starts running to the car. She answers just as the show is going to hang up. He starts asking her if she is OK, and things like that, before finally reading her the question.

Meanwhile, back at the gangsters home, Jamal's brother locks himself in the bathroom, and fills the tub with money and lies down in the tub. The gangsters see the show and hear what is going on. They try to break in to the room, and the brother shoots the gang leader. More shots are exchanged and Jamal's brother is killed.

The girl does not know the answer either, Jamal guesses at the answer and wins the money, but you can tell he does not care if the answer is right, he is just glad to have made contact with the girl.

The multiple choice question from the beginning is answered with the correct answer "It is written"

Next scene is Jamal at the train station, the girl comes, they are (re)united.

Fin.

One last thing, the director of this movie also made the movie "Millions", a book Maureen read to the kids and a sweeter look at money, and brothers, and kids that had experienced the death of a mother. Totally different setting though...

I just scrolled past "spoiler alert" (thanks, Jim!) because I really want to see it fist.

If you can't tell from the team photos I've posted, about 80% of our team is from India. Most of them have seen it and love it. So I think that I want to watch it first so that I know the story and then arrange a "team viewing" as our end-of-project party so that we can pause it so they explain things to the rest of us (me, Larry from Nebraska, Ian from San Francisco, Wonna and David from China, Cyrus from Iran, and Tika from Nepal).
