These are growing on our dwarf pear trees. At first, we thought they were weird apple-pears (since the pear trees are right next to some apple trees). Last year, though, we spent some time researching them & discovered that they are quinces. Many dwarf trees are grafted on quince root stock for some reason I can't remember. We must have planted too deep or too shallow, causing the quince to sprout it's own tree. Last year, we made some quince jelly with them. I'm not sure what we'll try this year, yet.

Very interesting! What does a quince taste like?

They don't taste very good at all, when raw. They're hard & bitter. But, if you cook them, they taste like a sweet, slightly spicy apple.
