Jim's birthday is tomorrow. I spent way too much time thinking about this today. He is a part of someone's life story & we know nothing about them. They are a part of his life story & we don't know that story at all. We'd just love to know & to let them know that we wish them well, thank them for putting him on this path in his life.

Wow! Think I just saw something about a new reality show that finds adopted kids/parents...

What's especially interesting to me, beyond his birth parents & that story, is the story of the potential adoptive family that he lived with for less than a week, before they decided they didn't want to adopt him. The story is that the local priest then went to Jim's parents & asked them if they would adopt him.

I'd love to hear about all of that from the people involved. Wish we would have asked more questions while his parents were alive.

The reality show is The Locator and the guy who does the searches is Troy Dunn. I believe his website is thelocator.com. It wouldn't hurt to submit Jim's story. What about that guy who "friended" you on Facebook, or was it Classmates? No response from him. I know you have done a lot of internet looking, but I would be glad to help you in any way I can. That first potential adoptive family - could they have been foster parents while the mom made her final decision to place Jim? That happens often in adoptions. I wish you luck. Everyone deserves to know who they are - not only Jim, but your kids too. Let me know if I can help...

I finally heard back from the guy who friended me on classmates yesterday. He said that he did not know Susan Lewis & could not help us. Of course, maybe she wasn't using her real name, as was common back in those days. And, well, I still don't know if I believe him about not knowing anything. He friended me, when he clearly didn't know me. And, he didn't have lots of other 'friends'. The only thing he knew of me was my post on a York High bulletin board, asking if anyone knew anything about Susan Lewis.

Jim thinks that it's possible that he might have known one of my older sisters, though, or something like that.

And, well, I'm getting lots of hits looking at this photoblog from the Atlanta area, which is where he lives. But, I'm also thinking it's possible that those are due to Betty coming in through a Georgia-based wireless connection. Are you?

I did send Jim's story in to The Locator last night, after Betty's comment sent me out looking. The thing is, though, that we truly don't want to rock anyone's boat, if they don't want to 'be found'.

We're curious, but not in any kind of way that motivates us to want to take a lot of time & work to find the answers. I'm afraid that once we decide to really put effort into it, though, it will be too late to give anyone a hug.

(I tried to post this once, but it disappeared, so I apologize if it comes up twice.)
What you said, Maureen, about it being too late - that is exactly why you should pursue this now rather than later - if it is, indeed, what Jim wants. And, I would not worry about rocking anyone's boat. This is Jim's life and he is ENTITLED to know about it. It makes me angry when adoptees are shut out and treated like they are intruding when all they want to know is how their life began. Regarding the Classmates guy - he is a dead-ringer for Jim. He reached out to you for a reason, and for whatever reason, he pulled back. Maybe some life change for him. I think he knows much more than he is saying. I would nicely ask him a few more questions. I hope that Troy Dunn will take your case. If not, or in the meantime, I would be happy to help if there is anything that I can do. If you have ever seen The Locater, he does talk to both parties beforehand to see that they are in a good place emotionally. Good luck to you and let me know if I can do anything.

I think that Betty is talking about another new show that starts next week "Find my Family".

Yes, I noticed last night that there were two shows. I use a Verizon thing to connect to the internet, so I don't know how it is routed. Maggie could also be on something that is routed through Atlanta...
