This time in a child's life has always amazed me. One day they just see a bunch of letters and the next they see words which opens a whole new world for them. When I helped out in Clint's kindergaten classroom, you could almost see the lightbulb go on over their heads.
How cool that you kept your first grade reader for so long! I'll bet she loves knowing that she's reading the same book that grandma did, when grandma was in 1st grade :-)
