We tried to make Grandma Larson's toffee recipe, tonight. It didn't work out too well, because we substituted shortening for some of the oleo but, Charlie *really* wanted some of it, anyway. This photo was taken right after we caught him licking the edge of the pan that the kids were cleaning out.

So funny? I just got done making the same (which I was in charge of the other night..). I didn't have margarine, so I used real butter. Then, when I was done and so proud of myself, I realized that one stick of butter was still on the counter, along with the vanilla, that I bought special, and forgot to put in! Hmmmm, we don't have a dog..

1 cup oleo, 1 cup white sugar, 3 Tbsp Water. Cook in saucepan til it looks like coffee with cream (hard ball stage). Remove from heat, add 1 tsp vanilla. Pour onto greased pan. Spread chocolate chips or chocolate candy bars on top (they'll melt when you put them on while it's still hot).

Let cool, crack into pieces - Yummy!
