It's kind of nice to think, "Well, there's always the possibility that we're millionaires right now, but just don't know it yet". So, we tend to keep unscratched lottery tickets and unchecked lotto tickets around for days, weeks, before checking to see if they're winners.

or have them in plain view in the car where someone will break in to get them and then we will have a millionaire theif running around. :)
