Commuters on the train pass their time in many different ways. Today I was surprised to see two different sets of men playing cards sitting right by each other. It was nice to see people interact on what is normally a pretty solitary experience.

I have been suggesting to Cole (for several days) that he should clean out his binder. He carries this binder everyday to every class. To my surprise he did it tonight without me even mentioning it. That binder is going to be so much lighter tomorrow.

We did some more exploring at the West Chicago Prairie today. When we were there yesterday, we asked if it was OK to go off trail & enjoy the whole area. That's when the kids can really feel like they're capable of overcoming any challenge that nature (or life) throws in their way.

Our neighbors have a tradition where you put a bible, a beer bottle and a silver dollar out to see what the birthday boy grabs - Gabriele grabbed the silver dollar which means that he will be prosperous. The beer bottle means that the child will be a 'wild child' and the bible means that the child will be a 'do gooder'
